A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic. The ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs. Different Types of BlogsMost blogs are primarily textual although some focus on photographs (photoblog), sketchblog, videos (vlog), or audio (pod casting), and are part of a wider network of social media. The term "blog" is derived from "Web log." "Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.-Wikipedia EncyclopediaFor some, writing is an art, and blogging provides them with a unique and interesting way to use words to express their art. This is because people who are into blogging are the ones who are artistic on their own sense; carefully choosing words that would best describe their feelings, sentiments, wishes, and desires.Blogs made their debut in the mid-1990’s when at that time they were first introduced as weblogs that refer to a “server’s log file.” Since its inception, web logging gradually saturated the virtual community making the Internet a viable source of greater information. The problem with web logs was the fact that you had to have a web site and a domain name in order to maintain one. Google enters the world of blogs and blogging“Weblogs are going Googling” was the headline in an E Journal article back in 2003. Below is an excerpt from that article.Google, which runs the Web's premier search site, has purchased Pyra Labs, a San Francisco company that created some of the earliest technology for writing weblogs, the increasingly popular personal and opinion journals. The buyout is a huge boost to an enormously diverse genre of online publishing that has begun to change the equations of online news and information. Weblogs are frequently updated, with items appearing in reverse chronological order (the most recent postings appear first). Typically they include links to other pages on the Internet, and the topics range from technology to politics to just about anything you can name. Many weblogs invite feedback through discussion postings, and weblogs often point to other weblogs in an ecosystem of news, opinions and ideas.- E Journal (2/15/2003)In most cases, these kinds of blogs are free of charge and appeal to a diverse group of people. With the onset of blogging in the industry, personal journaling became a common ground for people to have their “voice” heard all over the world. Originally, blogs were primarily used for personal use. Like a journal, people can write their daily adventures, sentiments, and whatever ideas they wanted to express online.Nevertheless, with the advent of the online businesses, blogs have gradually taken the limelight in providing businesses a chance to boost their productivity online. This is where the business blogs have taken the limelight.Business blogs are, basically created to advertise the services or products of a certain web site or online business in order to increase online sales. Moreover, business blogs are also one way of promoting the company so that the other readers will know that a certain company exists online. With blogs, entrepreneurs are able to establish a name in the virtual market through articles that can be very useful in the reader’s life. From there, you can make money out of blogs by simply syndicating it to other business’ web site. This can be done through the RSS technology. So, if you are thinking of creating a blog, whether for business or for pleasure, you need to know some tips that could help make your blog one of the more interesting blogs online.Things To Consider When Starting Your Blog:1. Consider your audienceEven if your blog is generally personal, it would be better to consider the minds of your readers. You should try to think of something that would be of interest to them. After all, most people who write blogs are not at all confined to their own personal motives. Most of them would love to be “heard” (or read) and would love to be known, in some way or another, even if just for a moment. Hence, it is very important to write about something that everybody can understand and relate to. 2. Pictures speaks a thousand wordsTo make your blogging worth the browsing effort of your readers, it would be extremely nice if you will put some pictures in it. It doesn’t necessarily mean you have to place a picture of yourself. But photographs that relate to what you’re writing about. Let’s say you are writing about your recent vacation at a resort. It would be appropriate to display your favorite photo from your trip.Warning: Do not use to many photos as this will be a distraction from your writings. Usually, 1 photo is sufficient but never use more than 2.3. Make constructive and beneficial blogsEven though you have the freedom to write anything you want to say to the world, it would be better to create write-ups that would be beneficial to your readers. Don’t be offensive or vulgar. Watch your language and keep a “clean” post and you may succeed at establishing a sincere relationship with visitors to your blog.4. Avoid making multifaceted and complicated blogsI often have to remind myself to “KISS” the things I’m doing. “KISS” stands for “Keep It Simple Stupid.”In order to have an interesting blogs, try not to use highly technical and highfalutin words. After all, it is not a science discourse or a debate that you are making, so it’s better to stick to simple facts and short blogs.Bear in mind that most people who use the Internet usually do more scanning than scrutinizing each site word for word. Therefore, it would be better to write blogs that will not bore your readers. Just because you write lengthy articles don’t make them interesting.5. Make it interactiveAs much as possible, make your blog interactive. You can do this by placing videos or audio clips in your blog. Once again, do not overdo it. One is more than enough but never use more than 2.You can even place an area for comments or for some feedbacks. In this way, you can get impressions or reactions from visitors of your blog. Who knows, you might even gain some friends just by making them feel at home in your blog site. Indeed, most blogs are not created just for the mere fun of it. Blogging has its own purpose in the world of the Internet. For people who wish to harness their craft as far as writing is concerned, blogs are the best way to do it. I like to think that blogging is the contemporary term for creative and commercial writing. So go ahead and enter the new age world of blogging. You might find that you really like it.Remember: IT TAKES TIME! So slow down, be patience and continue to follow you dreams. Don’t give up! If at first you don’t succeed, TRY, TRY, AGAIN! There is a lot to learn when starting your own blog. Give yourself a break and don’t set unrealistic goals. Don‘t be afraid to learn from others and keep at it until you get it just how you want it.So, Good Luck, Happy Blogging and Have Fun Doing It - Shirley KellyAbout the Author:Shirley Kelly is a full time internet marketer who has written over 200 articles in print and 5 published ebooks.
